MEDFORD
-- Sophomore closer Chris DeGoti (Miami, FL) of the Tufts
University baseball team, who is tied for the NCAA Division III lead
with 12 saves, was announced today as a D3baseball.com 2010
All-America First Team selection. DeGoti is the only player from New
England among the 16 selections made to D3baseball's All-America
First Team.
The New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association's Co-Pitcher of
the Year, and a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
First Team selection,
DeGoti broke the Tufts single-season and career saves records this
season. In addition to the 12 this year, he has 17 in his two-year
career.
Combining a bulldog mentality with great stuff, DeGoti recorded a
1.17 earned run average in 20 appearances for Tufts this season. He
surrendered just three earned runs in 23 total innings, and struck
out 23 while allowing only nine walks. Five of his saves came in NESCAC East
Division play, where Tufts finished 10-2 to win the pennant and earn
the right to host the conference championship. He did not allow a
run in six NESCAC divisional
appearances. The Jumbos went on to
win the NESCAC title, with DeGoti saving two out of the three games
during the championship weekend.
DeGoti recorded a six-out save against Eastern
Connecticut in Game 7 of the NCAA Division III Regional hosted by
the Warriors, allowing just one hit to finish off a 3-0 win.
The 2010 Jumbos smashed the previous school record
for victories with their 34-7 mark this spring. Coach John Casey's
Jumbos finished as the runner-up at the Regional.
