EIGHT SCORELESS RELIEF INNINGS, THREE SAVES EARN DEGOTI NESCAC PITCHING AWARD

MEDFORD -- Freshman Chris DeGoti (Miami, FL) has been the most used and most effective Tufts University pitcher this season, and he was involved in four wins by the team last week. Coming out of the bullpen, he did not allow a run in eight innings and has been awarded New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Pitcher of the Week honors.

After beginning the week with three no-hit innings in a 12-3 non-conference win over UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, DeGoti picked up saves in each of the Jumbos' three wins at Colby College on Friday and Saturday. With the series sweep over the Mules, Tufts (16-15, 7-5 NESCAC East) earned a berth into the upcoming NESCAC Tournament. The three saves gave DeGoti five for the year, the most in the league.

After Tufts scored twice with two outs in the top of the ninth of Friday's game at Colby, DeGoti pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to preserve the 5-3 Jumbo win. In Saturday's first game (seven innings), he came on in the fifth with two on and one out and got the Jumbos out of the inning. He went on to pitch 2.2 innings allowing two hits and a walk while striking out three. In Saturday's second game, he got a huge strike out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth with Tufts leading 10-8. He then finished off the series with a scoreless ninth.

For the week, DeGoti held opposing batters to a .077 batting average, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out nine. Tied for the league lead in appearances with 15, he's 3-0 with a 1.95 earned run in 28.2 innings pitched. The diminutive righty is striking out an average of one batter an inning with 29 K's. He's given up just four extra-base hits (all doubles).

This is the second NESCAC honor of the season for the Jumbos, with sophomore SS David Leresche (St. Louis, MO/Burroughs) named Player of the Week on April 13.
