NEWSOM, KACAMBURAS TO PLAY AT FENWAY PARK ON SUNDAY
MEDFORD – Seniors Randy Newsom (Cincinnati, OH/St. Xavier) and Adam Kacamburas (North Reading, MA/North Reading) of the Tufts University Baseball team will play at Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, on Sunday as part of the 2004 New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association's (NEIBA) College All-Star Game.
Newsom, a pitcher, and Kacamburas, a third baseman, are members of the Division III Senior team, which will join forces with Division II All-Stars to take on a team of Division I All-Stars. The game will be played after the Rex Sox host the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, with an estimated starting time of 7:00 pm.
The Tufts pair captained Head Coach John Casey's squad this season. Newsom led the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) in strikeouts with 57 while finishing 6-1 with a 3.10 earned run average. Kacamburas hit .322 with 33 runs scored, 26 walks and 13 stolen bases at the top of the Jumbo batting order. Tufts finished with an 18-14 record.
Newsom was named to the Division III Senior team by virtue of his selection as NEIBA All-New England Second Team. Kacamburas, a Third Team All-New England pick, was named as an alternate with strong chance of playing due to the absence of players who may not be able to attend the game.
This will be the 30th NEIBA All-Star game. The University Division leads the series against the College Division, 19-8-1. One game was played East versus West. However, the College team has won two out of the last three games.
