TWO JUMBOS NAMED NESCAC PLAYERS OF THE
WEEK
MEDFORD - Tufts University senior P Jodie Moreau (Clarksburg, MA/Hoosac Valley) of the softball team and junior CF Evan Zupancic (Lake Oswego, OR/Lakeridge) of the baseball team have been named NESCAC Players of the Week for their great contributions to the teams' success in the past week. Moreau received the honors for the second time in as many weeks, while it was Zupancic's first of the season. He shared the award with Trinity's Jonah Bayliss.
Moreau continued to be dominant in leading Tufts to a 12-5 overall record. She pitched two complete games in the week, including an eight-strikeout performance in a 2-0 win over Bowdoin on Saturday (Apr. 6). She recorded her 339th career strike out in that game, becoming Tufts' all-time leader by smashing Michelle Lima's five-year old record of 334. She also earned a 3-1 win over #4 in the nation Wheaton College on Wednesday. She now sports a perfect 9-0 record with a NESCAC-leading 0.39 ERA, over 0.60 lower than her nearest challenger (Colby's Toni-Lynn Robbins at 1.01).
As dominating as Moreau has been from the mound, Zupancic has been just as outstanding at the plate. The junior center fielder hit .563 (9-for-16) in Tufts' five games this past week, including three home runs and a triple. He knocked in seven runs, scored eight, and racked up three stolen bases as the Jumbos went 4-1 on the week to improve to 12-4-1. He had an outstanding performance in Tufts' 25-4 win over Mass Maritime on Tuesday (Apr. 2), going 4-for-6 with two home runs and six RBI. While Tufts took three of four games from NESCAC foe Wesleyan over the weekend, Zupancic went 2 for 3 with two runs in a tripe during a 4-0 win on Saturday. Then he was 2 for 3 again with a home run in a 4-1 victory over the Cardinals on Sunday. Also a football cornerback, Zupancic is hitting .348 with four home runs and 15 RBI overall.
