BEREA, Oh. -- Seniors Jesse Faller (Burlington,
MA) and Jared Engelking (Westborough, MA) of the Tufts University men's track & field team
produced Jumbo highlights at the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor
Championships hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College on Thursday through
Saturday.
Faller earned the
seventh All-American honor of his Jumbo running career on Thursday
night when he finished fifth in the 10,000 meters. Engelking set a
Tufts decathlon record by scoring 6,914 points over two days at the
NCAA's, placing seventh in the event for All-American honors.
Faller's time of 30:37.75 in the 10K gave him his
first-ever All-American performance outdoors. He is a three-time cross
country All-American, and three times he also earned national honors at
the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Faller completed a long-distance double at NCAA's by competing in the 5,000
meters on Saturday as well. He was 12th in the NCAA 5K with a
15:03.92 time.
Engelking stood 11th after five
events in the decathlon. He scored a total of 3,494 points on Thursday, 30 behind the eighth-place
spot that would give him All-American honors. He ran the 100 meters in
11.44 seconds for 765 points and finished the 400 meters in 49.77
seconds for 825 points. He added 3,420 points in the five events on
Friday, jumping four spots into seventh. His Friday action included a
high of 879 points with a time of 14.76 seconds in the 110-meter
hurdles. This marks the second straight year that Engelking is an
All-American at the NCAA Outdoor decathlon. Engelking's 6,914 points
surpass the previous Tufts record of 6,871 points set by Skip Pagel in
2009.
Senior Trevor Donadt (Northborough, MA) was also
in action on Thursday, but failed to qualify for the finals of the
400-meter hurdles with his time of 54.26 seconds in the preliminaries.
The six points scored by Faller and Engelking placed
Tufts in a tie for 45th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
