CAMBRIDGE -- The Tufts University men's indoor track & field team
split its squad between Boston University's Valentine Invitational
and the MIT Invitational on Saturday. The MIT contingent was led by
junior Frank DeSalvo's (Naples, FL) second-place effort in
the long jump with a distance of 21'0 1/2" (6.41m).
Other solid finishes for the Jumbos at MIT included a third place in
the 400 meters by freshman Olamide Babatunbe (Portsmouth, NH)
with a time of 54.19 seconds. The Jumbos also earned two fourths, with
freshman Thiago Lima (Danbury, CT) running 1:27.55 in the 600
meters, and classmate Russell Stern (Lynbrook, NJ) reaching 41'4
1/2" (12.6m) in the triple jump.
Another top-five performance came in the shot put, where freshman
Curtis Yancy (St. Louis, MO) tossed a best ball of 44'4 3/4"
(13.53m).
Coach Ethan Barron's team reunites for the start of the championship
season next weekend at the New England Division III meet hosted by the
University of Southern Maine.
