BRUNSWICK, Me. -- Senior quad-captain Jared Engelking
(Westborough, MA) of the Tufts men's indoor track & field team
won the 55-meter hurdles at the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday
afternoon. His time of 7.71 seconds in the finals provisionally
qualifies him to compete at the NCAA Championships in March.
Engelking's performance highlighted the Tufts effort, which resulted
in a fourth-place showing out of five teams. He won the preliminary
round with a time of 7.92 seconds, and then was 0.38 faster than MIT's
Eric Boyer in the final.
Freshman Michael Blair (Wellesley, MA) produced the only other
Tufts win, clearing 6'1 1/2" (1.87m) for first place in the high jump.
Teammate Isaiah Paramore (Charlotte, NC) was the runner-up in the
event.
Freshman Nick Ferrentino (Old Tappan, NJ) also produced eight
second-place points in the 5,000 meters, finishing with a 16:01.80 time.
Classmate Dan Kirschner (Short Hills, NJ) had a third-place run
in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line with a 1:59.34 time.
The Jumbos scored 74 points overall. MIT won the meet with 264
points. Springfield (108) and the host Polar Bears (92) were second and
third, respectively.
Tufts hosts an Invitational at the Gantcher Center next weekend (Feb.
5-6).
