He scored an outstanding 878 points toward his total with the time, which beat the 14.9 provisional qualifier. He also had an excellent time of 51.37 seconds in the decathlon 400 meters for 753 points.

Rotella put down a time of 10.9 seconds in the preliminaries of the 100 meters, faster than the previous Jumbo record of 10.95 seconds run by Greg Hutton 18 years ago in 1991. Rotella placed fifth in the 100 finals with a time of 11.12 seconds.

Tufts placed seventh at the meet overall, scoring 48.83 points. Williams College won the regional championship with a 136.66 point total. Tufts was third among NESCAC schools, with Bates placing fifth with 51 points.

Senior quad-captains James Bradley (Atkinson, NH) and Colin Fitzgerald (Scarborough, NY) had runner-up efforts for the Jumbos. Bradley tied for second in the high jump, clearing 62 (1.90m). A time of 22.90 seconds in the 200 meters put Fitzgerald in second.
