Sophomore Sam Read (Barkhamsted, CT) defeated a small field in the pole vault with 13'3" (4.03m) clearance, as did senior quad-captain Skip Pagel (Mystic, CT) in the 400-meter hurdles (58.58 seconds).

Jumbos finished second and third in the 100 meter dash with sophomore James Wheeler (Hanover, MA) posting a time of 11.75 seconds and senior quad-captain Kevin Fitzgerald (Scarborough, NY) on his shoulder in 11.78 seconds. Two Tufts throwers had runner-up performances. Chris Delany hurled the discus 131" flat (39.94m) and junior Jared Engelking (Westborough, MA), rounding into form in the javelin throw, had a 175' 1" (53.38m) launch.

Junior Matt Tirrell (Burlington, MA) was the first collegiate finisher in the 800 meter run (2:00.31).

Coach Ethan Barron's squad is scheduled to compete at two Division I venues next weekend. On Friday night, some Jumbos will compete at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University in New Jersey. On Saturday, the team travels to the Dartmouth Invitational in New Hampshire.
