Meet Results
CAMBRIDGE -- Distance runner Jesse Faller (Burlington, MA),
high jumper James Bradley (Atkinson, NH) and the distance medley
relay won New England Division III titles as the Tufts men's indoor
track & field team tied for second place overall at the 2009 regional
championship meet hosted by MIT on Friday and Saturday.
Tufts scored 104 points to tie the host Engineers. New England
champion Williams College scored 145 to win the team title. These three
teams were far ahead of the rest of the pack, with fourth-place Bowdoin
finishing with a 54 score.
All three Tufts champions repeated from last year. Faller ran an
8:41.14 in the 3,000 meters to win on Saturday. He added a second place
in the mile-run with a 4:19.42 time. Bradley cleared 6'5 1/2" to win the
high jump event. Tufts has now won the last four high jump titles at the
New England D3's, with Bradley in 2008-09 and Jeremy Arak in 2006-07.
The DMR of junior Billy Hale (Menlo Park, CA), junior Alex Landy
(Dover, MA), sophomore Corey Melnick (Waltham, VT)
and sophomore Jeff Ragazzini (Wilton, CT) won on Saturday with
a 10:28.77 time.
Coach Ethan Barron's team had multiple scorers in several events. The
55-meter hurdles featured junior Ikenna Acholonu (Shoreline, WA)
in second (7.83 seconds), junior Jared Engelking (Westborough, MA)
in fourth (7.91) and junior Trevor Donadt (Northborough, MA) in sixth (8.04). Engelking also came in
second for the pentathlon, scoring 3,391 points. Senior quad-captain
Skip Pagel (Mystic, CT) took fourth in a tight pentathlon with 3,378
points.
Senior quad-captain Nick Welch (Seattle, WA) added a runner-up effort in the 5K, crossing the finish line in
15:15.93. Sophomore pole vaulter Sam Read (Barkhamsted, CT)
scored third-place points for Tufts with 14'6" (4.42m) clearance.
Tufts competes at the New England Open Indoor Championships next
weekend (Feb. 27-28) at Boston University.
