Quad-captain Skip Pagel led off for the second-place 4x4

CAMBRIDGE -- With the Tufts University men's indoor track & field team split between non-scoring meets at Boston University and MIT, the hurdles pair of juniors Jared Engelking (Westborough, MA) and Ikenna Acholonu (Shoreline, WA) provided the MIT highlight with a 1-2 finish on Saturday.

Engelking won the 55-meter hurdles in 7.92 seconds with Acholonu on his heels in second place with a time of 7.98 seconds. Engelking was also part of the team's second-place run in the 4x400-meter relay. He ran the second leg, behind senior quad-captain Skip Pagel (Mystic, CT) and in front of junior third-leg Trevor Donadt (Northborough, MA) and sophomore anchor Brendad Blaney (New York, NY). They timed 3:32.86, a second behind relay winner Middlebury.

Other Jumbos placing among the top five at the meet included sophomore pole vaulter Sam Read (Barkhamsted, CT), who was fourth with a 14'2 3/4" (4.34m) performance. The Jumbos also had two fifths: sophomore James Wheeler (Hanover, MA) in the long jump at 20'10 1/2" (6.36m) and freshman Matt Williams (Punta Gorda, FL) in the shot put at 43'5 3/4" (13.25m).

Tufts heads back to MIT next weekend (Feb. 20-21) for the start of the championship season at the New England Division III meet. Coach Ethan Barron's squad is the defending champion.
