BOSTON -- Some of the finest performances in team history were recorded
by the Tufts University men's indoor track & field team at the 2009
Boston University Valentine Invitational on Saturday. Leading the way
was junior Jesse Faller (Burlington, MA) in the 5,000 meters,
where his converted time of 14:43.25 (14:39.65) on the banked track is
an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Faller ran fifth out of 95 entrants in the BU 5K. His time is currently
tenth overall for Division III.
Two Jumbos ran the team's second-best indoor times ever for their
events. Senior quad-captain Colin Fitzgerald's (Scarborough, NY)
22.47 in the 200 meters was just two-tenths of a second off the team
record of 22.28 set by teammate Andrew Longley (Short Hills, NJ)
last year. In the 1,000 meters, junior Billy Hale (Menlo Park, CA)
finished in 2:29.71, less than a second off the Tufts record of
2:28.93 established by Aaron Kaye in 2005.
Also at BU, senior Phil Rotella (Louisville, KY) ran a 49.51 400
that is fourth-best indoors for the Jumbos.
The team also competed at the MIT Invitational on Saturday.
