MEDFORD -- Senior quad-captain James Bradley (Atkinson, NH)
cleared 6'9" in the high jump to tie the Tufts University men's indoor
track & field team's record on Saturday afternoon inside the Gantcher
Center at the third Tufts Invitational of the winter. Bradley's effort
tied the 26-year old Jumbo record originally set by Steve Sutherland in
1993.
Bradley, who also shares the Tufts outdoor high jump record with
Jeremy Arak at 6'7 1/2", jumped more than five inches better than
anybody else at the meet on Saturday. He was one of four Tufts winners
at the non-scoring meet.
Bradley also ran the third leg of the winning 4x400 meter relay for
Tufts. Senior quad-captain Colin Fitzgerald (Scarborough, NY) led
off, senior Phil Rotella (Louisville, KY) handled the second leg
and junior Billy Hale (Menlo Park, CA) anchored as the Jumbos
finished in 3:26.05 to win by one second.
Rotella also had an individual victory, crossing the finish line
first in the 200 meters with a time of 22.92 seconds. The other Tufts
victory came from junior hurdler Ikenna Acholonu (Shoreline, WA).
Fifth in the 55 meter hurdles preliminaries with a 8.16 time, he
improved to 7.91 to win the final. He nipped Division II UMass Lowell's
Matthew Blazon (8.01).
Junior Ryan Lena (Orono, ME) earned a runner-up finish for
Tufts, timing 8:55.83 in the 3,000 meters.
In their last meet before the beginning of the championship season,
Tufts competes at BU's Valentine Invitational next Saturday.
