BRUNSWICK, Me. -- The Tufts University men's indoor track & field
team scored 121 points to finish third out of five teams at the Bowdoin
Invitational on Saturday afternoon. MIT won the meet with 181 points,
followed by the host Polar Bears at 155.
The Jumbos went 1-2 in both the 600 meters and in the 3,000. Junior
Scott Brinkman (Alamo, CA) and freshman Connor Rose (Irvine,
CA) were the first two to cross the finish line in the 600, edging
MIT's Matt Bieniosek in a tight race. Brinkman won with a 1:23.74 time
and Rose's second-place time of 1:23.90 was 0.01 ahead of Bieniosek.
In the 3,000, distance studs Jesse Faller (Burlington, MA) and
Nick Welch (Seattle, WA) easily outpaced the field. Faller won
the race in 8:31.72 with Welch next at an 8:37.05 time. The Jumbo duo
was 12 seconds ahead of the rest of the pack.
Sophomore weight thrower Alex Gresham (Milton, MA) won his
first collegiate event, taking the weight throw with a best launch of
51'4 �� (15.65m). Junior Ikenna Acholonu (Shoreline, WA) was 0.15
of a second off the NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 55 hurdles
with his winning time of 7.87 seconds.
The Jumbos host the third invitational of the season at the Gantcher
Center next Saturday.
