Junior Jared Engelking hit the NCAA
qualifying mark in the pentathlon

MEDFORD -- Junior Jared Engelking (Westborough, MA) of the
Tufts University men's indoor track & field team qualified provisionally
for the NCAA Championships with a score of 3,400 points that won the
Tufts Pentathlon on Friday night at the Gantcher Center.
Engelking hit the provisional mark of 3,400 exactly. He won the
55-meter hurdles in 7.94 seconds and was second in both the long jump at
19'10 1/4" (6.05m) and the shot put at 39'8" (12.09m). He finished 177
points ahead of second-place Joe Krasinskas of WPI.
Tufts had three athletes competing in the event out of 14 overall,
and all finished in the top five. Junior Trevor Donadt (Northborough,
MA) placed fourth with 3,115 points. His top performance was in the
55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.02 seconds. He was also fifth in the
1,000 meters (2:53.5). Senior quad-captain Skip Pagel (Mystic, CT)
scored 3,059 points to take fifth place. He had thirds in both the
long jump and shot put with distances of 19'7 /12" (5.98m) and 36'1 1/4"
(11.00m), respectively.
The rest of the Tufts team competes at Bowdoin College on Saturday
(Jan. 31).
