Meet Results

BOSTON -- The Tufts University men's track & field team earned two NCAA provisionally qualifying times and set one school record during the two-day Open New England Championships held at Boston University on Friday and Saturday. The Jumbos scored seven points at the meet to tie for 23rd place.

Sophomore Andrew Longley (Short Hills, NJ) extended his own Tufts indoor record in the 200 meters and classmate Jesse Faller (Burlington, MA) posted an NCAA provisional mark in the 5,000 meter run on Friday. Saturday has highlighted by senior quad-captain Dave Sorensen's (Dover, MA) provisional time in the mile run.

Last time he was at BU on February 9, Longley finished the 200 in 22.48 seconds to break a 15-year old Tufts record. On Friday he shaved a fifth of a second off that mark down to 22.28 seconds. He finished 11th in the preliminaries, just missing out on qualifying for the final. He qualified for the final in the 400 and finished eighth in 49.44 seconds to score one point.

In the 5K, Faller had a 14:46.90 time that will be well within the 14:55 provisional qualifying mark after it's converted. Faller was fourth in the race, scoring five points for the Jumbos. Sorensen ran the mile in 4:12.33, well under the 4:16 provisional mark even after one second is added to compensate for the banked track. He was 10th at the meet. Tufts also scored a point when sophomore Billy Hale (Menlo Park, CA) took eighth place in the 800 meters (1:55.10).
