PRINCETON, N.J. -- Sophomore Jesse Faller (Burlington, MA)
of the Tufts University men's outdoor track & field team ran the
second-fastest outdoor 5,000 meters time in Jumbo history on Friday
at the IC4A Championships hosted by Princeton University. Faller's
14:31.39 time will also earn him a trip to the NCAA Championships
next weekend in Wisconsin.
The only Division 3 entry in the race at IC4A's, Faller ran 15th in a
field of 39 Division 1 athletes. The time currently ranks 11th on the
national list and stands behind only Matt Lacey's extraordinary 14:19.37
at the Penn Relays in 2005 as the best 5k in Tufts track history.
Senior quad-captain Dave Sorensen (Dover, MA) also represented
Tufts well at the meet, racing to a 15th place finish in a Division 1
field of 34 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. His 9:12.39 time did not
improve his national mark of 9:10.73 set at the NESCAC Championships.
NCAA entries will be posted on Sunday morning. Sorensen ranks sixth
in the steeplechase, Faller is 11th in the 5k and senior triple jumper
Dan Marcy (Middletown, NY) is fourth in his event.
