BOSTON -- Tufts University's distance medley relay ran a
school-record time of 10:00.05 at the 2008 IC4A Championships hosted by
Boston University on Saturday. The new school standard surpassed the 32
year-old previous mark of 10:04.2 in the Tufts annals.
The 2008 record-setting group was senior quad-captain Dave
Sorensen (Dover, MA), sophomore Andrew Longley (Short Hills, NJ),
sophomore Billy Hale (Menlo Park, CA) and sophomore Jesse
Faller (Burlington, MA). The finished eighth out of 28 teams in the
preliminaries of the event at IC4A's, tops among Division III schools.
They qualified for the final on Sunday, but did not compete due to an
NCAA rule that does not allow competition on the Sunday prior to the
NCAA Championships.
The converted time of 10:03.05 due to the banked BU track was 12th in
Division III nationally this season. The top 10 qualified for the NCAA
meet, which is this Friday and Saturday in Ohio (March 14-15). Sorensen
will be in Ohio for the mile run.
With a long tradition of track at Tufts, a broken record is always a
memorable occasion. The 1976 distance medley relay that held the record
for so many years was Kutteruf, Stadeck, Baldwin, Caseley.
