BOSTON -- The Tufts University men's indoor track & field team opened
the 2007-08 season at Northeastern University's Husky Carnival on
Saturday afternoon. The meet featured competitors from Divisions I, II,
III and top amateurs, and the Jumbos posted several solid early
performances according to Coach Ethan Barron.
The top Tufts finishes were third-places recorded by senior
quad-captain Dan Marcy (Middletown, NY) and sophomore Billy
Hale (Menlo Park, CA) in the 1,000 meters. Marcy was third in the
triple jump with a mark of 44-feet even (13.41 meters). Hale finished in
2:34.37 behind two Boston College runners.
This was a non-scoring meet. Three other Jumbos would have scored
points with top-eight finishes. Freshman Frank DeSalvo (Naples, FL),
in his first collegiate competition, was successful at 6'2" in the high
jump (1.87m) for sixth place. Senior Jacob Fromer (Albany, NY)
was seventh behind March in the triple jump with a 41' 0 1/4" mark
(12.50m). Senior Joe Brown was seventh in the weight throw with a
distance of 51-feet even (15.54m).
Tufts will close its first semester of action next Saturday with a
pentathlon event hosted by Bates College.
