TUFTS TAKES SECOND IN HOME INVITATIONAL TO OPEN 2008 SEASON

Meet Results
SOMERVILLE -- With light snowflakes falling briefly in the middle of
the meet, the Tufts University men's outdoor track & field team opened
its 2008 season at the aptly titled Snowflake Classic at Ellis Oval/Dussault
Track on Saturday. The hosts took second place with 154 points at the
meet, which was held under cold and windy conditions.
Coach Ethan Barron's Jumbos scored big points in the middle
distances, where they got victories in the 800 and 1,500 meters.
Sophomore Jesse Faller (Burlington, MA), who has emerged into a
team leader with his performances during all three seasons, won the
1,500 meters in a 4:07.36 time. Classmate Scott Brinkman (Alamo, CA)
was the winner in the 800, timing 2:03.86. Tufts also had second in the
1,500, Billy Hale's (Menlo Park, CA) 4:09.50, and Alex Landy
(Dover, MA) with a runner-up 2:04.89 finish in the 800. Both are
also sophomores.
The strength of the sophomore class was flexed the hurdles as well.
Andrew Longley (Short Hills, NJ) won the 400 hurdles in 56.86
seconds. Jared Engelking (Westborough, MA) was second in the 110
hurdles (15.31). Trevor Donadt (Northborough, MA) was second in
the 400 (57.32) and third in the 110 (15.62). All sophomores, as is
Nick Welch (Seattle, WA), who took the inaugural 3,000 meter
steeplechase romp with a 9:58.37 time.
Longley, Brinkman and Donadt joined senior Derek Engelking
(Westborough, MA) for the 4x4 that won a Jumbo-dominated race. Their
time was 3:27.31 against a field including five other Tufts foursomes.
