MIT Invitational Results

BOSTON -- The Tufts men's indoor track & field team spent its last weekend prior to the start of the championship season by splitting the squad and competing at a home invitational at the Gantcher Center and over at the MIT Invitational. Both were non-scoring meets.

At Tufts, senior quad-captain Dave Sorensen (Dover, MA) ran a 4:16.84 mile, 0.84 of second behind the NCAA provisional mark of 4:16 flat. He took fifth in the race. Sophomore Trevor Donadt (Northborough, MA) was second for the Jumbos in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.87 seconds. Fractions of a second behind him was sophomore teammate Jared Engelking (Westborough, MA) in third place at 7.90 seconds. Donadt also earned a fourth in the triple jump with 41'5 1/4" distance.

Winners for the Jumbos were the 4x400 relay and freshman pole vaulter Sam Read (Barkhamsted, CT). The 1,600-meter relay group of sophomore Andrew Longley (Short Hills, NJ), freshman Matt Keefer (Yonkers, NY), junior Colin Fitzgerald and freshman Jeremy Peterson (Middlebury, VT) won with a 3:28.08 time that was .02 ahead of second-place Stonehill College. Read's 13'9" vault easily topped the field.

Coach Ethan Barron sent the Tufts jumpers to MIT to compete. Jumbos took two seconds over there. Senior quad-captain Jeremy Arak (Ipswich, MA) cleared 6'3 1/4" in the high jump to finish as runner-up. Classmate and fellow quad-captain Dan Marcy (Middletown, NY) reached 46'6 1/4" in the triple for second place.

Tufts will host the New England Division III Indoor Championships at the Gantcher Center next weekend (Feb. 22-23).
