BOSTON -- Sophomore Andrew Longley (Short Hills, NJ) broke a
15-year old team record, and senior captains Dave Sorensen (Dover,
MA) and Dan Marcy (Middletown, NY) both hit NCAA provisional
standards in Tufts men's indoor track & field competition at Boston
University's Valentine Invitational on Saturday.
Longley ran 22.48 seconds in the 200 meters to shave .13 off the
previous Tufts record of 22.61 seconds set by Greg Hutton in 1993. As an
indication of the talent lining up at the BU meet, Longley's record run
came in 34th place at the meet.
Marcy landed a triple jump of 46' 7 1/2" that was eighth at the meet
and well within the provisional mark of 45' 11 1/4". Sorensen finished
the 5K in 14:48.18 on the banked track at BU. The converted time will be
within the NCAA mark of 14:55. He was 28th in that race.
Senior captain Jeremy Arak (Ipswich, MA) recorded the highest
finish of the day in the high jump. He cleared 6'6" to take sixth place,
an inch short of NCAA qualifying. Sophomore Billy Hale (Menlo Park,
CA) finished 15th out of 78 entrants in the 1,000 meters with a
2:30.04 time.
Tufts may split the squad next weekend when it hosts an invitational
and has an invitational at MIT on the schedule.
