Meet Results

WAVERLY, Ia. -- Sophomore Fred Jones (Northfield, MA) added to his already impressive resume in collegiate competition by placing second in the triple jump at the 2005 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

Jones, who also took seventh in the long jump, scored all of Tufts' 10 points at the championships to give the team a 24th place tie. Teammates Nate Brigham (Penacook, NH) and Matt Lacey (Amherst, MA) also competed at Nationals for the Jumbos.

Entered in the triple on Saturday, Jones broke his own Tufts record with a best jump of 49 feet, 1 3/4 inches (14.98 meters). Lincoln University freshman Yudehwheh Gbaa topped that with a distance of 49-6 1/4 to win the 2005 national championship in the event. Jones also took seventh in the long jump in Friday's action with a best leap of 23-6. Both of his finishes earned All-American recognition.

The two All-American citations give Jones five already in his young career. He was third at the Outdoor Nationals in the triple jump as a freshman in 2004 (48-11), sixth in the TJ at the 2004 Indoor Nationals (47-4 1/2), and second in the long jump at the 2005 Indoor Nationals in March (23-9).

Brigham qualified to compete in both the 10K and 5K at the NCAA meet. He placed 14th in the 10K with a time of 31 minutes, 15.77 seconds and was 18th in the 5K (15:27.70). Lacey, who entered the 5K ranked second nationally with a 14:19.37 at the Penn Relays, ran 15:11.56 at Nationals for 16th place.

Lincoln University won the team championship with 69 points.
