PRINCETON, N.J. -- Junior Matt Lacey (Amherst, MA) of the Tufts University Men's Outdoor Track & Field team was an impressive third overall in the 10,000 meters at the IC4A Championships hosted by Princeton University over the weekend. That led a Tufts University effort scoring seven points for 34th place at the meet.
In a field of 30, including mostly Division I athletes, Lacey ran a school record time of 30 minutes, 4.2 seconds in the 10,000. It was an NCAA automatic qualifying mark and is the third fastest time in NCAA Division III this season. That goes along with his 5,000 meters time of 14:19.37 at the Penn Relays which is currently the second fastest US Division 3 mark.
Senior Nate Brigham (Penacook, NH) ran 15th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:35.53, his second fastest time this season.
Sophomore Fred Jones (Northfield, MA) took seventh in the Long Jump at 23 feet, 4 3/4 inches, his second best jump of season. He went 47-1 3/4 in the Triple Jump and though it didn't make finals or place it was a season's best performance and is ranked 16th nationally. Jones hurt his hip flexor a bit during the long jump, which prevented more impressive results from him.
