BOSTON -- Freshman Fred Jones (Northfield, MA) won the Long Jump and the Triple Jump at his collegiate debut when the Tufts Men's Indoor Track & Field team competed at the season-opening Husky Winter Carnival at Northeastern University on Saturday. The meet featured Division I, II and III competition. It was a non-scoring meet.

Jones won the Triple Jump with a leap of 46 feet, 8 inches to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championship meet. He also won the Long Jump with a 22-02 1/4 best jump. Senior Nate Brigham (Penacook, NH) also provisionally qualified for Nationals at the meet in the 5,000 Meters with a time of 14 minutes, 47.04 seconds for second place.

Other Jumbos with notable performances include freshman Nathan Cleveland's (Auburn, ME) second place in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 1:59.50. Junior Dan March (Bethesda, MD) was also second in the Weight Throw with a 52' 5 1/4" heave.
