NEW HAVEN -- Junior Nate Brigham (Penacook, NH) was the lone Jumbo to compete at the prestigious IC4A track & field championships last week, but it was worth the trip.

Running in the 10,000 meters against a field of primarily Division I competitors, Brigham ran a 30:17.92 to qualify automatically for the NCAA Championship meet in Illinois May 27-29. The time also broke his own school record by 16 seconds. He was fourth at the IC4As, behind William & Mary freshman Keith Bechtol's 29:58.13 time. Another runner from William & Mary and an athlete from Duke University were the only others to beat Brigham. The total field for the event was 28, and Brigham was the only Division III competitor.

Brigham will join freshman teammate Fred Jones (Northfield, MA) at the NCAA meet. Jones is qualified in both the Triple Jump and the Long Jump.
