WHITEWATER, Wisc. -- Junior Nate Brigham (Penacook, NH) and freshman
Fred Jones (Northfield, MA) turned in top-ten performances for the Men's Track and Field team at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships held at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Friday and Saturday. Jones earned three points for his triple jump performance to earn 40th place for the team.
Jones finished sixth in the Triple Jump with a leap of 47 feet, 4 1/2 inches. His preliminary leap of 46 feet, 9 1/2 inches ranked him fifth going into the finals. In the finals, sophomore Kristian Majdik from New York University jumped a winning leap of 49 feet, 2 1/2 inches, an unexpected result given his preliminaries ranking of eighth. Jones' jump was eight inches lower than his previous season-best, a 48 foot, 1/2 inch jump to win the All-New England Championship on February 28.
Brigham placed ninth in the 5,000 Meter Run with a time of 15 minutes, 0.10 seconds, improving on his pre-race seed of 12th. Champion David Cisewski of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh ran the race in a time f 14:30.58.
Head Coach Connie Putnam's team will now have a break until the outdoor season starts on April 3rd with a meet at Southern Connecticut.
