BRUNSWICK, ME - The Tufts men's indoor track & field team finished second only to Williams College as the two teams dominated the New England Division III Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday at Bowdoin College. Head Coach Connie Putnam's Jumbos scored 107.5 points, behind Williams' 115.5 but 23 ahead of third-place Bates College.

The Jumbos won three events on Saturday. Junior Ray Carre (Middletown, CT) took the 600 Meters in a school-record time of 1 minutes, 22 seconds flat. Junior Nate Brigham (Penacook, NH) led the field in the 5,000 Meter Turn with a 14:44.47 time that improves his national qualifying mark. Freshman Fred Jones (Northfield, MA) won the Triple Jump, and improved upon his own school record, with a leap of 46 feet, 10 1/4 inches.

Jones was also second in the Long Jump with a distance of 22-10, which is an NCAA provisional qualifier. Junior Nate Thompson (South Portland, ME) was fourth in the event.

Tufts piled up several six-point third place finishes. Freshman Nate Cleveland (Auburn, ME) took third in the 600 Meters in 1:23.25. Sophomore Kyle Doran (North Attleborough, MA) took a third in the 1,500 Meter run (3:58.48). The Jumbos got a 3-4 finish in the 3,000 Meter Run with sophomore Matt Lacey (Amherst, MA) running third in 8:47.99 and junior Michael Don (Clayton, MO) was right behind in 8:49.55. Thompson was third in the 55 Meter Hurdles, finishing in 7.82 seconds.

To date, Jones in the TJ and LJ, Brigham in the 5,000, and junior Dan March (Bethesda, MD) in the Weight throw are provisionally qualified to compete at the NCAA Championships March 12-13 in Whitewater, Wisconsin. The team has the All-New England and ECAC championships remaining.
