BRUNSWICK, Me. - The Tufts men's indoor track and field team finished first in eight out of 18 events en route to a victory over MIT and Bowdoin on Saturday. Head Coach Connie Putnam's team scored 133 points to MIT's 123 and Bowdoin's 118 in a tightly contested meet held at Bowdoin. Tufts entered the last two events with a 23 point lead over MIT and a 16 point lead over Bowdoin and then held strong to secure the victory.

Junior Nathan Thompson (South Portland, ME) led the Jumbos with first-place finishes in three events. He won the long jump (21 feet, 4 1/4 inches), the triple jump (40' 7 1/2"), and the 55 meter hurdles (7.86 seconds), scoring 21 points for the team. Junior Ray Carre was the only other multiple event winner for the team, winning the 200 Meter Run (23.22) and the 400 Meter Run (50.27).

The Jumbos swept the distance events. Sophomore Matt Fortin (Raymond, ME) won the 1,000 (2 minutes, 34.84 seconds), junior Michael Don (Clayton, MO) was first in the 3,000 (8:50.19) and junior Nate Brigham (Penacook, NH) finished first in the 5,000 (14:58.71).

The team returns home this Saturday for the Tufts Invitational III. Events start at 11 am.
