MEDFORD -- For the second straight game, the
ninth-ranked Tufts University men's lacrosse team received scoring
contributions from a wide array of players in their 20-4 victory
against Lasell College on Tuesday afternoon at Bello Field.
After a dozen Jumbos scored goals in their
season-opening win against Amherst, a baker's dozen (13) got into
the scoring column against the Lasers today. Junior Ryan Molloy
(Setauket, NY) and sophomore Sean Kirwan (Boonton Township,
NJ) led the troops with three goals each. Junior D.J. Hessler
(Monkton, MD) assisted five goals and scored twice for Tufts
(2-0), which has scored 38 goals in their first two games.
Tufts scored the game's first six goals, all by
different players. Hessler netted one and assisted two. Lasell
junior Sam Wilcox (Norfolk, MA) and Kirwan traded man-up goals in
the final 61 seconds of the first period and the Jumbos led 7-1 at
the first break.
Another man-up goal by Lasell, from junior Sean
Speciale (Hillsborough, NJ) at 9:10 of the second quarter, made it
an 8-2 game. Hessler set up back-to-back goals by Jumbo junior
Brian Donovan (St. James, NY), Wilcox scored his second goal of
the game during a man-advantage at 3:34, and Tufts led 12-3 at
halftime.
The Jumbos extended their lead to 20-3 early in the
fourth quarter. Freshman Andrew Fiamengo (New Fairfield, CT)
scored his first collegiate goal when Tufts was a man down at 8:11
of the third. Sophomore Geordie Shafer (Rancho Santa Fe, CA)
tallied the first goal of his Tufts career with 41 seconds remaining
in the third. Lasell freshman Dylan Gray (Bayport, NY) finished off
the scoring with his first collegiate goal at 7:33 of the fourth.
Both teams used three goalies. Sophomore Steve
Foglietta (Oceanside, NY) started and earned the win while
playing the first half for Tufts. Junior Bryan Petillo (Holbrook,
NY) played the third period and freshman Tyler Page (San
Francisco, CA) finished up in the fourth, making four saves. The
Jumbos finished the game with big advantages of 57-18 in shots and
46-23 in ground balls. Sophomore Nick Rhoads (McLean, VA) won
13 of 20 face-offs, leading Tufts to a 15-12 victory margin in that
category. Junior Alec Bialosky (Moreland Hills, OH) picked up
five ground balls and scored a goal.
Junior Eric Walsh (Weymouth, MA) started in goal for
Lasell (1-3), making nine saves in the first half. Freshman Tyler
Silliman (Windsor, CT) and junior Mike Kelliher (Weymouth, MA) also
played. Sophomore Adam Foss (Billerica, MA) won seven face-offs and
finished with three ground balls for the Lasers. Junior Nick Sampson
(Londonderry, NH) led the visitors with four ground balls.
Twenty-three penalties were flagged in the game, and
