HARTFORD -- Junior attackman Harper Cullen (Rehoboth Beach, DE) netted four goals, leading a horde of eight Bantams with goals in the game, as Trinity College gave the visiting #5 Tufts University Jumbos their first loss of the season with an 11-9 victory in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

Trinity improves to 7-3 overall and 3-3 in the NESCAC with its first win over Tufts since a 10-7 road victory in 2001, ending s string of seven straight losses in the series. The Jumbos fall to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

The Bantams started the game strong with a goal from senior Zac Trudeau (Norwell, MA) 1:47 into the game. Later in the first, Bantam senior Brad Hunnewell (Chestnut Hill, MA) scored, followed by Cullen's first goal of the game to give Trinity a 3-0 lead. Tufts responded with a goal by junior Mike Droesch (Setauket, NY) with 54 seconds left in the quarter.

Both squads came out aggressively and notched four goals each in the second stanza. The Jumbos scored 10 seconds apart early in the period, with freshman Nick Rhoads (McLean, VA) winning the face-off after a goal by senior teammate Kevin Williams (Merrick, NY) and scoring to pull Tufts within 4-3. The second of Tufts senior tri-captain Clem McNally's (Far Hills, NJ) two goals in the second quarter tied the score at 5-5 with 3:24 to play until halftime. However, Trinity didn't wilt, as Rob Mountain and Colin Murphy scored late for the Bantams and they led 7-5 at the break.

Tufts sophomore attackman D.J. Hessler (Monkton, MD) scored twice early in the third frame to knot the game at 7-7. The teams played even through the rest of the third until Cullen gave Trinity a 9-8 advantage with an unassisted tally at 1:50 of the third quarter.

Jumbo attackman Ryan Molloy (Setauket, NY) tied the game 9-9 at the 7:50 mark of the fourth quarter, but that would be it for the Jumbos. Bantam sophomore Greg Brennan (East Setauket, NY) scored the game-winning goal just over two minutes later. Cullen ended the game's scoring with his fourth goal at the 3:32 mark.

Brennan, senior midfielder Connor Hustava (St. Louis, MO) and senior captain attackman Rob Mountain (New Canaan, CT) each recorded a goal and an assist for Trinity, while senior tri-captain attackman Clem McNally (Far Hills, NJ) paced the Jumbo offense with three goals. Bantam goalie Graham Fadden (New Canaan, CT) stopped nine shots and Tufts goalie Matt Harrigan (Darnestown, MD) made 11 saves. Trinity senior captain Connor Wells (Haddam, CT) won 15 of his 24 face-off chances and picked up a team-high seven ground balls.
