NEWTON -- Fourteen different Tufts University men's lacrosse players scored goals as the Jumbos walloped Lasell College, 22-8, in non-league action on Tuesday afternoon. Senior tri-captain Clem McNally (Far Hills, NJ) scored five times for Tufts and sophomore Ryan Molloy (Setauket, NY) finished with three goals and four assists.

The Jumbos scored three times over five minutes in the first period, pouring on the pressure from the get-go. Junior Mike Droesch (Setauket, NY) scored just eight seconds into the contest after winning the opening face-off and flying down field and firing in a fast initial goal unassisted. Droesch then assisted on the Jumbos' second score, tallied by McNally at 11:26. Junior Doug DiSessa (Wynnewood, PA) marked Tufts third goal just under the ten-minute mark.

Lasell responded with their first goal at 5:32 when freshman midfielder Adam Foss (Billerica, MA) shot a pass in front of the goal to Sean Speciale (Hillsborough, NJ). After two more Jumbo connections, senior attackman Dave Bulhoes (Billerica, MA) gave Lasell their second score off a pass from Chris Bulkley (Groton, CT). McNally scored two more goals before the end of the first period, giving him four in the first 15, to put Tufts ahead 7-2.

The Tufts advantage was 15-3 at halftime. The period featured two goals by sophomore Matt Witko (Chappaqua, NY) and the first collegiate scores by freshman Kevin McCormick (Laytonsville, MD) and sophomore Alec Bialosky (Moreland Hills, OH). The eight-goal period was broken up just once by Lasells Mike Maggio (Winchester, MA), who cranked a shot past Tufts goalkeeper Matt Harrigan (Darnestown, MD) and was assisted by Ryan Koerner (Floral Park, NY).

After the teams traded a goal each in the third period, four more Jumbos scored for the first time in their college careers during the fourth quarter. That group included sophomore T.C. Neuhs (Rockville Center, NY), freshman Jordan Korinis (Ridgewood, NJ), freshman Tucker Delaney-Winn (Winchester, MA) and freshman Sean Kirwan (Booton Township, NJ).

The 22 goals tie for the second-most in Tufts team history. It's the most goals by a Tufts team since 1999 when they scored 22 against Assumption. Only a 23-goal output by the 2000 team against College of Wooster is ahead of it in the record book.

The Lasell defense was kept busy throughout the game, as the Jumbos out-shot Lasell 66-23. Lasell goalie Mike Kelliher (Weymouth, MA) made 24 saves in net, while Harrigan made three saves for the Jumbos in 30 minutes. Sophomore Bryan Petillo (Holbrook, NY) and freshman Steve Foglietta (Oceanside, NY) also saw action in the Tufts goal.

Foss led Lasell with five ground balls and was 10 for 15 in face-off wins, however it was Tufts freshman Nick Rhoads (McLean, VA) who had a game-best nine ground balls. Droesch recorded four points with one goal and three assists. Junior Eytan Saperstein (Hewlett, NY) was solid on defense for the Jumbos, causing four turnovers.

Koerner finished with three points for Lasell on two goals and one assist. Brandon Keith, Bulhoes, and Maggio each added two points, while Maggio added two caused turnovers.

Tufts hosts a NESCAC game at Bello on Saturday afternoon at 1 pm. The Lasers will next face-off against UMass Boston on Saturday at 1:00 pm on Grellier Field.
