SPRINGFIELD -- The  Tufts men's lacrosse team earned its best win of the 2008 season so far with an 11-7 victory over #14 Western New England College on Wednesday night under the lights. Freshman Ryan Molloy (Setauket, NY) had three goals and an assist, and junior Matt Harrigan (Damestown, MD) made 18 saves, as the Jumbos defeated a Golden Bears team that was one of just two squads to beat Tufts during the regular season last spring.

Junior Clem McNally (Far Hills, NJ) also netted three goals for the Jumbos, who improve to 5-3. Freshman D.J. Hessler (Monkton, MD) contributed five assists in the win.

Tufts took a 1-0 lead in the opening period when Molloy scored at the 3:57 mark with an assist from Hessler. WNEC tied the contest just 40 seconds later on a goal by senior Mike Kelly (Cheshire, CT) with an assist by senior Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH). Molloy tallied his second goal of the evening with 1:45 left in the stanza as the Jumbos took a one-goal edge after the opening quarter.

Tufts held a 4-1 advantage following a man-up goal by senior Matt Caple ((Wellesley, MA) with 8:57 left in the half before the Golden Bears scored three straight goals to tie the contest at 4-4 at the 5:38 juncture. Tufts answered with three consecutive goals for a 7-4 lead at intermission and then maintained its edge the remainder of the game. The Jumbos out-shot the Golden Bears by a 46-35 margin.

Freshman Joe O�Keefe (Branford, CT) led the Golden Bears with two goals while Kelly finished with a goal and assist. Senior Chris Body (Newtown, CT) stopped 16 shots.
