Game Box Score
BRUNSWICK, Me. -- Tufts University's Clem McNally (Farhills, NJ)
scored a game-high four goals as the Jumbos men's lacrosse team
survived at Bowdoin on Saturday, 9-7. The Jumbos, ranked sixth in
the nation, improve to 9-1 (5-0 NESCAC). Bowdoin drops to 5-5 (2-3).
Coupled with losses by Middlebury and Williams, Tufts now has a
two-game advantage atop the conference standings.
The teams traded blows in a low-scoring opening half, as Tufts held
a 2-1 lead after the first period. McNally pushed the lead to 3-1 in
the second quarter before Bowdoin's Kevin Mullins scored late in the
stanza to cut the lead to 3-2 at intermission.
Consecutive goals by Alex Weaver midway through the third quarter
closed the gap completely, knotting the game at 4-4 with 7:24 left
in the period. But Tufts outscored Bowdoin 3-0 in a seven-minute
span late in the third and early in the fourth quarter to push their
advantage to 7-4. Jordan Yarboro (Herndon, VA), McNally and
Chase Bibby (Marblehead, MA) netted the goals. However,
Bowdoin refused to go away, scoring twice in under a minute late in
the fourth quarter from Weaver and Max Key to cut the lead to 8-7,
but a late tally by Tufts' Mark Warner (Wading River, NY)
sealed the contest with 3:44 remaining.
Bowdoin outshot Tufts 38-30 and held a 11-9 edge in face-offs for
the game. Both goaltenders were exceptional, as Matt Harrigan (Darnestown,
MD) stopped 16 for Tufts and Charlie Legg 15 for Bowdoin. Weaver
led the hosts with three goals, while Matt Chadwick earned three
assists. Connor Ginsburg (New Haven, CT) had two assists in support
of McNally's four tallies for Tufts.
