MEDFORD – Sophomore David Taylor (Burke, VA) scored three goals and assisted on two others as the Tufts University Jumbos won their NESCAC opener at home against Trinity College this afternoon at Ellis Oval 8-5. Senior Chris Kollar (Middle Island, NY) added a goal and three assists, including tow on Taylor tallies.
Both teams played well defensively as the Jumbos jumped out to a 2-0 score after the first quarter. The Bantams of Trinity rebounded with two goals of their own in the second as the teams entered the half knotted at 2-2.
In the third quarter, Tufts took control of the game in front of a large crowd with four unanswered goals, including the eventual game-winner by Taylor unassisted. Tufts sophomore goalie Luke Chicco (Merrick, NY) was excellent, making several clutch stops for a total of 20 in the game and 15 in the second half.
Trinity made a game of it in the fourth quarter, but the Jumbos had too much as they won their fourth straight game and first in the NESCAC. Senior Ravi Pillay (Falls Church, VA) had two goals for the Bantams.
The Jumbos hope to continue their winning streak as they travel to Bowdoin College on Wednesday for another NESCAC matchup. The Bantams host Eastern Connecticut in a non-conference game that day.
