MEDFORD – The Tufts Jumbos exploded for 11 second-half goals to beat the MIT Engineers 16-6 this afternoon in a non-league Men's Lacrosse match-up in Medford.  The win, the Jumbos 11th, set a new school record as the Jumbos prepare to face Wesleyan University in a NESCAC semi-final on Saturday.

Tufts’ regular stars saw little or no action in the game as the Jumbos rested several key players.  The upset minded Engineers led after the first quarter 3-2 and trailed by only a goal (5-4) at the break. The Jumbos pulled away in the second half as they scored three goals in the first 3:40 and then cruised to the win.

Freshman Ariel Rudolph (Amherst, MA) led all Jumbo scorers with three goals and two assists.  Eleven other Jumbos registered at least a goal with freshmen Adam Delaney-Winn (Winchester, MA) and Jeremy Kerbel (Newton, MA) sophomore Rob Fishel (Owings Mills, MD/Pikesville) and junior Dan Gold (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) registering their first collegiate tallies.  Delaney-Winn’s score proved to be the game-winner.

Junior Brian Atherton (Derry, NH) and senior Michael Terrasi (Franklin Square, NY) split time in the net for the Jumbos each playing a half.  Atherton came away with his first collegiate win. Six different players scored for MIT with sophomore Carter Powers (Brentwood, TN) leading all Engineer scorers with a goal and an assist.

The Engineers finish the season at 5-6.  Tufts travels to Middlebury College to face Wesleyan in the NESCAC semifinals at 3 pm on Saturday.
