BRUNSWICK, Me. - Behind a 14-save effort by goaltender Luke Chicco (Merrick, NY) and a strong second half on offense, the Tufts University Men's Lacrosse team defeated Bowdoin on Wednesday afternoon in Brunswick, 9-5. The Jumbos improve to 5-1, while Bowdoin drops to 3-4 on the year.

Tied at three apiece at halftime, the Polar Bears took a 4-3 lead on a goal by Phil Stern at the 11:11 mark of the third quarter. The Jumbos answered with three straight goals by David Taylor (Burke, VA), Matt Malatesta (Winchester, MA) and Casey D'Annolfo (West Hartford, CT) to take a 6-4 edge. Bowdoin replied with a goal from Ted Scholhamer shortly before the end of the frame as the game headed into the fourth period with Tufts holding a slim 6-5 lead.

The Jumbos proceeded to shut out the Polar Bears in the final quarter, as three straight tallies clinched the win. Devin Clarke (Ridgewood, NJ), Mike O'Brien (Concord, MA) and Malatesta all scored in the first nine minutes of the period and Chicco proved to be too strong, making eight second-half saves to earn the win.

Bowdoin's Grant White made 11 saves in the loss as Connor Fitzgerald and Stern had a goal and an assist for the Polar Bears. Tufts got two scores from Malatesta and a one-goal, one-assist effort from Clarke, Taylor and Alex Kerwin.
