MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- In a pivotal game for both teams with respect to the upcoming NESCAC tournament, Tufts roared back from an early 3-0 deficit to post an eventual 13-9 win at Wesleyan in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, Tufts secured one of the seven spots in the conference playoffs that start on Sunday (Apr. 28). It also ended a two-game slide and kept them above .500 overall at 7-5. Wesleyan will need some help to get into the tournament after falling to 3-5 in the league and 8-6 overall.

The Jumbos scored six consecutive goals en route to a 7-5 halftime lead after trailing 3-0 after just 2:45 of play. Senior Jon Zissi (Winchester, MA) had two of the six goals as he finished the game with three, bringing his season total to 26. He also had two assists for a five-point game.

After Tufts moved ahead 6-3 with 11:42 to go in the second quarter, the teams proceeded to trade goals for the next 31 minutes as Tufts held an 11-8 edge with 11:30 to play. Zissi then completed his hat trick to make it 12-8 at the 8:30 mark and senior Jack Palmer (Vestal, NY) ended Tufts' scoring at 4:55.

Senior David Supple (Rowayton, CT) added three goals to the Tufts attack. Senior Kurt Lutwyler (Ridgewood, NJ) made 19 saves in goal to earn the win. Entering their season finale versus Connecticut College on Saturday, the Jumbos still have a chance to finish in the top four and host a first round game on Sunday.
