The Tufts University Men's Lacrosse team opened their spring training trip in Florida with a 15-5 win over U-Mass Boston on Wednesday. Undefeated in two games, including a 19-7 win at MIT on March 14, the Jumbos have had a strong start to the year against local teams.
Leading the Jumbos in scoring was freshman attach Bryan Griffin (West Islip, NY) with five goals. Seniors Jon Zissi (Winchester, MA) and David Supple (Rowayton, CT) both added three goals and one assist apiece. Supple vaulted the Jumbos ahead with two out of the first five Tufts' goals in the first period as the Jumbos took a 5-2 lead. Griffin then took the reigns and scored three straight goals in the second period and the beginning of the third. The Jumbos offense was practically unstoppable in the third period with seven goals. It was 14-4 after three periods.
Senior goalkeeper Kirk Lutwyler (Ridgewood, NJ/ Ridgewood) played 53 minutes and tallied 16 saves for the game. The Jumbos play next against Colorado College in Baltimore, Maryland in the finale of their spring break sojourn.
