The Tufts University Men's Lacrosse team opened the 2002 season with a convincing 19-7 win over local rival MIT. With even scoring from many players the Jumbos set the stage for a promising season.
The Jumbos jumped out of the gates fast and scored five goals in the first period compared to MIT's one. The Engineers were unable to catch up as the Jumbos scored another five in the second period to put the game out of reach with a 10-2 halftime lead.
Junior midfielder Alex Kerwin (Bethesda, MD) led the Jumbos in scoring with four goals and three assists. In his first collegiate game freshman attack Bryan Griffin (West Islip, NY) made a good first impression with three goals and two assists. Jon Zissi (Winchester, MA) also added two goals and two assists. Senior goalkeeper Kirk Lutwyler (Ridgewood, NJ) made 14 saves for the game.
The Jumbos now take off on their spring break trip. They face U-Mass Boston next on March 20 in Port Richey, Florida.
