MEDFORD – Junior Peter Rogers (Southington, CT) scored the game-winner in the midst of a five-goal run to lead the Trinity College Bantams past the Tufts University Jumbos, 10-7, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

Bantam senior Rob Morse (Winchester, MA) picked up a hat trick with three goals and senior tri-captain Mark Tassie (Hopewell, NJ) recorded three assists in the victory. Tufts senior co-captain Dan Kollar (Middle Island, NY) scored two early goals and tallied an assist to lead the Jumbos in their NESCAC opener. The Bantams improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the NESCAC, while the Jumbos dropped to 4-2 and 0-1.

The first half featured tight, back-and-forth scoring by the two squads. Tufts jumped out to an early 3-1 lead on co-captain Kollar’s two goals and a goal by junior co-captain David Supple (Rowayton, CT). Both teams exchanged a goal apiece late in the first to end the quarter with Tufts on top, 4-3. Trinity scored two straight to open the second, but Tufts junior Jon Zissi (Winchester, MA) scored to tie it up mid-way through the quarter, and the score held until the half, tied 5-5.

The Jumbos opened up the second half with a lightning-fast pair of goals by Chris Taylor (Cambridge, MA) and Alex Kerwin (Bethesda, MD) to take a 7-5 lead only 25 seconds into the third quarter. Following these goals, however, the Tufts offense fell quiet, and did not score for the remainder of the game. Trinity scored the first of five unanswered goals when James Skiff (Hollywood, CA) put one in the net at 10:15 of the third quarter. Rogers scored the game-winner, his only goal to complement two assists, with 2:28 remaining in the third. Morse capped the run with his third and the final goal of the game at 2:40 of the fourth.

Bantam junior goalie Eric Wilson (West Hartford, CT) held off a few late scoring threats by the Jumbos to preserve the 10-7 victory. He finished the game with 15 saves. Junior Kirk Lutwyler (Ridgewood, NJ) saved 15 shots for Tufts.
