WENHAM, Mass. -- The visiting Tufts Jumbos raced to a 7-0 lead after one quarter on their way to posting a 17-8 victory over the Gordon College Fighting Scots in New England men's college lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon. The win lifted head coach Mike Daly's Jumbos to 5-0 overall, the program's best start since the team's year-by-year scores were first compiled in 1955. It also equals the team's victory total from last season.

Junior Dan Kollar (Middle Island, NY) scored three of his game-high five goals in the first quarter to help lift Tufts to its big early lead. Host Gordon came back with six goals in the second quarter, three by senior Drew Dixon, and the Jumbo lead was a less convincing 10-6 at halftime. Sophomore Kirk Lutwyler (Ridgewood, NJ) had 11 saves in the Tufts cage during the first 30 minutes.

Tufts pushed the margin to 12-6 after three quarters on goals by Kollar and senior midfielder Matt Adler (Princeton, NJ), then added five more goals in the fourth to cruise comfortably to the win. Senior Greg Molinelli (Northport, NY) scored two of his three goals in the final frame. Lutwyler finished with 16 saves, while his counterpart, Nate Boyd, had 15.

The team's perfect mark will be put to the test on Saturday (Apr. 1) in their NESCAC opener at Trinity. Game time is 1 p.m.
