JUMBOS VOLUNTEER AT CRADLES TO CRAYONS FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR ON SPRING BREAK

MEDFORD -- For the second straight year, the Tufts University men's lacrosse team volunteered their time during Spring Break at Cradles to Crayons in Quincy, Massachusetts. After arriving home at 3 am on Thursday morning (Mar. 25) from their game with Skidmore on Long Island (a 15-10 come-from-behind victory), the team was back on a bus at 9 am to spend the day at Cradles to Crayons.

Free of charge, Cradles to Crayons provides low-income and homeless children from birth to pre-teen the basic essentials they need to be safe, warm, ready to learn, and valued. According to the Cradles to Crayons website, almost 300,000 Massachusetts children up to age 13 live in poor or low-income households. The organization also sets a foundation for lasting change through the meaningful, tangible volunteer opportunities provided to thousands of youth and adults each year.

The Tufts men's lacrosse program is committed to the success of the organization. While at the facility last week, one group of Jumbos sorted, folded and inventoried a large pajama donation. Another group helped transition the winter clothes to their off-site warehouse and spring/summer clothes back to Quincy. Other Jumbos folded and organized summer clothes for distribution.

"I was genuinely impressed with the effort of our team," Coach Mike Daly said. "They were tired and sore, but they did a great job controlling their attitudes and attacking the time while we were there. Our only regret was we don't and didn't do more."
