MEDFORD -- Junior long-stick midfielder Jordan Yarboro
(Herndon, VA) of the Tufts University men's lacrosse team was
voted the best at his position in New England by virtue of his
selection to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's
(NEILA) All-New England first team recently. With a second team
NEILA honor, Jumbo senior Tucker Merrigan (Greenfield, MA)
was regarded as one of the six best defenders in the region.
The All-New England award is the second for Yarboro, who was a
second team selection last season. Merrigan earns his first All-New
England recognition. Both players were voted All-New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) for 2008 as well.
Yarboro continued his stellar performance as a shut-down defender
who can add offensive production with transition play and scoring.
He had three goals and two assists this season, along with 51 ground
balls defensively.
Merrigan led a young Jumbo defensive unit that included two new
starters. Tufts had strong defensive performances early in the
season against eventual NESCAC champion Williams College (7-4 win)
and later against NCAA qualifier Bowdoin College (19-4 win).
The Jumbos finished with a 9-6 record this season against the
second-most difficult schedule in the nation, according to
LaxPower.com. Tufts received votes in the final United State
Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll on May 5.
