MEDFORD -- Inside Lacrosse, the leading website in
lacrosse coverage, has selected Tufts University sophomore Clem
McNally (Farhills, NJ/St. George's) as its Nike Division III
Men's Player of the Week for games from March 19-25.
McNally scored six goals with an assist in two games for the the
Jumbos, who ranked at No. 7 in this week's Inside Lacrosse (IL)
national poll. All six of the goals were scored in the second half
as Tufts came from behind in both games.
Head coach Mike Daly's team scored what IL deemed the biggest upset
of the DIII season so far, knocking off second-ranked Wesleyan in
impressive fashion on Saturday, 9-6. Tufts was behind 4-2 at the
half. McNally, who leads Tufts with 11 goals on the season, came up
big when the Jumbos needed it most, tallying a hat trick in the
second half, including the goal that would put the team ahead for
good at 9:11 in the third quarter, his second straight goal. He lead
the Jumbos with seven shots and had an assist. With the win, Tufts
snapped a four-game losing streak against the Cardinals while
improving to 4-0 on the season.
Also last week, Tufts traveled to Virginia and defeated No. 17
Roanoke, 13-12, on Tuesday. McNally scored three goals, all in the
second half when the Jumbos overcame a 9-5 deficit. He scored twice
during a four-goal Jumbo run that tied the game at 9-9 in the third
quarter.
McNally is the second Jumbo to be recognized following the team's
impressive week. Sophomore goalie Matt Harrigan (Darnestown,
MD/Landon) was chosen as the New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) Co-Player of the Week. Inside Lacrosse honored
Harrigan as its Division III Player of the Week early last season.
McNally led the Jumbos with 21 goals last season despite not playing
a regular role until halfway through the season. He was named NESCAC
Player of the Week on April 24 of last year after scoring eight
goals in Tufts wins over #17 Western New England and against #13
Bates.
