O'BRIEN, DORNSEIF ARE HONORABLE MENTION ALL-AMERICANS IN LACROSSE
MEDFORD � The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association released its 2006
Division III All-America teams on Sunday. Jumbos Mike O'Brien (Concord, MA/Middlesex
School) and Wiley Dornseif (Littleton, CO/Phillips Exeter) were
honored as Honorable Mention selections.
The team leader in scoring, O'Brien had 20 goals and 11 assists for 31 points. He
led the Jumbos with 89 shots in 17 games and scored twice on man-up situations. He had a
seven-game goal scoring streak in the middle of the season, including two each
in conference games against Bowdoin, Williams and Colby. O'Brien was a repeat
All-New England pick this spring and was an honorable mention selection as a
sophomore in 2004.
Joining O'Brien as a repeat All-New England pick is Dornseif, a 6'2", 200-pound
defender who has established himself as one of the nation's best. Tops among Tufts defenders
with 37 ground balls, he also scored a goal against Eastern Connecticut. The
Jumbos posted a 7.83 goals against average this spring.
This is the fourth straight year that Tufts has had representation on the USILA teams.
Devin Clarke (third team) and Bryan Griffin were honored in 2005, Griffin was second team
and Clarke honorable mention in 2004, and Griffin was on the honorable mention list
in 2003.
Tufts finished the 2006 campaign 11-6 overall this season and was fourth in the NESCAC
with a 5-4 record. The Jumbos advanced to the conference tournament semi-finals where they
lost in three overtimes at Middlebury 12-11.
