MEDFORD -- The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
men's basketball coaches voted to recognize Tufts senior Jon
Pierce (Belmont, MA) as one of the league's best players for the
fourth straight season this year. The NESCAC All-Conference awards
for the 2009-10 season were announced today.
Pierce was selected to the All-NESCAC Second Team for the third
straight season this year. He was the league's Rookie of the Year in
2007. He is the only player in the conference to earn honors in each
of his four seasons. He joins Colby's Adam Choice as the only
players to be selected to the All-Conference teams in each of the
last three seasons.
The leading scorer in the league as a sophomore in 2008 and as a
junior in 2009, Pierce was second this year with an 18.3 scoring
average. He was sixth in the league with 7.3 rebounds per game and
fifth with 1.52 blocked shots per game. He shot 50.6 percent
(163/322) from the floor. In nine NESCAC regular-season games,
Pierce averaged 20.4 points per game with a .528 field goal
percentage (67/127).
Pierce shared NESCAC Player of the Week honors with Choice on
February 1. He scored 32 points with 13 rebounds on January 29 at
Wesleyan, then followed with 35 points and seven rebounds at
Connecticut College on January 30. The 35 points tied for the most
in a league game this season. The weekly honor was the fifth NESCAC Player of
the Week of his career. Also that week, Pierce became the
Tufts program's all-time leading scorer against UMass Dartmouth on
February 2. He finished his career with 1,855 points.
