JON PIERCE NAMED TO D3HOOPS ALL-NORTHEAST REGION
SECOND TEAM

Two-time NESCAC scoring champion Jon Pierce

MEDFORD --
Junior forward Jon Pierce (Belmont, MA/Phillips Exeter) of
the Tufts University men's basketball team, the 17th leading scorer
in the nation and fourth among New England players as of March 15,
was recently selected to the D3Hoops.com All-Northeast Region Second
Team. This is the second straight year that he is on the regional
second team.
Pierced finished the 2008-09 season with a 21.7 scoring average, the
best at Tufts since 1995 when Chris McMahon's 24.6 average set a new
Jumbo record. Pierce topped 20 points 13 times, including a
career-high 40 points in the season-opener against Babson. He
knocked down 14 of 21 shots in the game.
Like his Boston Celtics namesake, Pierce can score from anywhere on
the floor. He hit 191 of 384 field goals overall (49.7 percent), was
39 for 118 from three-point land (33.1) and went to the free throw
line 151 times, making 100 (66.1). He reached the 1,000 points
career milestone early in the year and will enter his senior season
within reach of the all-time scoring mark at Tufts. He's currently
eighth on the Jumbo list with 1,434 points, 351 shy of Greg Davis'
1,785 record.
A three-time New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
award winner, Pierce has been the conference's leading scorer in
each of the last two seasons. He scored 21.5 points per game in
2007-08. The 6'5", 240-pounder led the conference in rebounding this
season with 8.7 per game this year.
Pierce was a D3Hoops.com Preseason All-American honorable mention
pick this year.
