MEDFORD – After a clutch performance against Brandeis University, and a solid week overall, junior tri-captain David Shepherd (Grantham, NH/Proctor) of the Tufts University men's basketball team was named to the Team of the Week for November 28 through December 4.

Against Brandeis, Shepherd scored 11 points in the final three minutes including the game-tying layup with 1.3 seconds remaining to bring Tufts back from nine points down and send the game to overtime where the Jumbos would win 86-72. He finished the game with 15 points, including a perfect 6 for 6 from the free throw line, and five assists.

In three victories for Tufts last week, which stretched their winning streak to five games for their longest in five years, Shepherd was a leader in each game. He averaged 16 points, four rebounds and six assists, shooting 60-percent from the floor (15 for 25) and 82-percent from the charity stripe (13 for 16).

On Tuesday, he added 17 points, six rebounds and seven assists to a 91-81 home victory against Western New England College. In a 91-74 victory against UMass Dartmouth on Thursday, he connected on six of seven shots and scored 16 points with six assists. For the week Shepherd hit five of nine three-pointers for a 55.6 percentage from long distance.

In seven starts this season, including a 103-77 loss at Plymouth State on Tuesday night, Shepherd is averaging 10.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game.

Shepherd was one of five players in the national (a center, two forwards and two guards) selected to the Team of the Week. The website is the information authority for small college basketball in the country.
