Grafton Course Info

The current Tufts Cross Country course opened in 1997 at the Tufts Veterinary School in Grafton, MA. Coach Connie Putnam designed and built the course himself which is fully contained upon a still worked hayfield. The course consists mostly of a grass/dirt surface (depending on the weather) out in the field and a short, quarter mile long woods path on the big loop. Except for the brief section in the woods, the entire course is viewable from the top of the central hill, making it one of the best spectator courses in New England. In fact, with a minimal amount of movement, one can cheer the runners up close and personal at least 4 times in a 5k race and 6 times in an 8k race. The Locust Barn, used for storage and meet administration, is well over 150 years old. Annually, the course is home to Tufts Alumni Race (Tufts varsity and alumni), Hayseed Classic, and the Jumbo Invitational. Also, in its brief 5 year existance, it has been home to 3 ECAC Championships, 2 MIAA All-State High School Championships, and the NESCAC Championships in Fall 2002.
